The Weekend Downtown Has Been Waiting For: Everything Happening May 2–3

Spring Festival. Derby party. Wine bar live music. A nature center ribbon cutting. Two nail boutiques celebrating milestones. And yes, Moola — we'll explain. Here is everything worth knowing about the biggest Ridgefield weekend of the season.

Two days. A dozen things worth showing up for. Whether you have kids who have been waiting months for the splash pad, a hat in the back of your closet that finally has its moment, or you just need a good reason to get downtown — this weekend delivers. We've pulled everything together so you can plan your Saturday and Sunday without opening fourteen different Instagram accounts.

A quick orientation: most of the big action on Saturday is concentrated along Main Avenue, Davis Park, and Overlook Park in the heart of downtown. Sunday takes you just a few minutes north to the wildlife refuge for something genuinely historic for this community. And scattered between those anchors: live music, a Derby watch party, grapefruit mimosas, and the opening of not one but two nail boutiques doing something worth noting. Let's go.

Saturday, May 2

First Saturday Spring Festival

Date
Saturday, May 2, 2026
Hours
9 AM – 7 PM (events staggered)
Where
Davis Park, Overlook Park, Main Ave — Downtown Ridgefield
Cost
Free to attend

The Spring Festival is the reason everyone ends up downtown on a First Saturday — and this year it runs from 9 AM to 7 PM, with something genuinely worth stopping for at almost every hour. The vendor market at Davis Park opens at 9 and runs through 2. Live music from Robby Mayer (a singer-songwriter and live looper) starts at 10:30 at Davis Park and plays through 1:30 PM. If you haven't heard a live looper perform before, budget a few minutes to watch — it's the kind of thing that makes people stop and stay longer than they planned.

Overlook Park is where the day's energy concentrates, with lawn games, a free flower crown station, and the craft station all running 9 to 2. Then at 10 AM, the splash pad opens for its 2026 season — first day, full jets, 10 AM to dusk. If you have kids, you already know what that means. Pack a dry change of clothes.

At noon, the First Saturday anniversary celebration happens at Overlook Park with Mayor Cole, free cupcakes, and performances from Ridgefield Dance and Ridgefield Cheer Academy. This is the kind of small-town civic moment that's easy to dismiss and weirdly satisfying to actually attend.

Over at the Greely Building on Pioneer Street, the Ridgefield Garden Club is running their annual plant sale 9 to 3 (or until sellout). Hanging baskets, sun and shade planters, herbs, shrubs, homegrown veggies, and a handful of Ridgefield Art Association members selling outdoor art alongside the plants. One practical note: the Garden Club accepts cash, check, or debit/credit only — no Cash App or Venmo due to nonprofit regulations. Plan accordingly.

Parking heads-up: Downtown fills fast on First Saturdays. Available street parking runs along Pioneer Street, Main Avenue, 3rd, 4th, 5th, Simons Street, Mill Street, Division Street, and the west side of Railroad Ave. Arrive early or plan to walk a block or two. Carpooling is genuinely a good call today.

Kentucky Derby Watch Party at The Neighborhood Refuge

2nd Annual Kentucky Derby Watch Party Sat, May 2 • 3–7 PM

The Neighborhood Refuge is hosting their second Derby party, and if last year was any indication this is where a very significant portion of downtown ends up on Saturday afternoon. The race — the 152nd Run for the Roses — goes off at roughly 4 PM our time, which gives you a solid first hour to get settled, grab a mint julep, and get properly invested before the two most exciting minutes in sports.

Live music from the Tuesday String Band. A hat contest that is not optional (it matters, go big, thrift stores are your friend). A best dressed couple contest. Raffle prizes. The full bar and menu at the Refuge. This is an afternoon in the best sense of the word.

Location: 113 S Main Ave, Ridgefield — the converted church space in the heart of downtown. Worth arriving early; check their Instagram at @theneighborhoodrefuge for any ticketing details.

Ridgefield Wine Bar — Live Music + Grapefruit Mimosas

GARRESON Live Music + Grapefruit Mimosa Special Sat, May 2

The Wine Bar at 112 N Main Ave Suite B is participating in the Spring Festival energy in their own way. Grapefruit mimosas run all day starting at 11 AM, and GARRESON plays live 5 to 7 PM. It's a natural second stop after the afternoon wears down, or a first stop if you need to ease into the day at a more civilized pace.

Upcoming at the Wine Bar: Bottle Bouquets with Ridgefield Floral and Gifts run May 1 through 10, and Barbara Baker plays May 23 with Rose Flights available. They've got a solid spring calendar lined up.

Live Music Seasonal Cocktails 5–7 PM

Ridgefield Craft Brewing — Early Open + Open Mic Stand-Up Comedy

Spring Festival Open + Open Mic Stand-Up Comedy Night Sat, May 2 • Opens 11 AM • Comedy at 7 PM

Ridgefield Craft Brewing is opening early at 11 AM to lean into the Spring Festival foot traffic — solid call. The real draw for those who want to keep the night going: open mic stand-up comedy starts at 7 PM. It's the kind of thing that turns a day downtown into an actual full day out, not just an afternoon. Local comedians, unpredictable energy, and presumably decent beer.

Open Early Comedy Evening

Art Receptions — Afternoon and Evening

Two gallery events round out the cultural side of Saturday. The Ridgefield Art Association is hosting a reception for their library show "Beyond the Frame" at the Ridgefield Community Library from 3:30 to 5:30 PM — open to the community, refreshments included. Then from 5 to 7 PM, the Ridgefield Art Gallery at 104 N Main Ave spotlights member Lori O'Haver with her show "Glow: Exploring the Light." Both are free to attend and a good reason to extend the afternoon without spending anything.

Also This Weekend — Beyond Downtown

Not everything worth noting this weekend is on Main Avenue. Two local businesses in Discovery Ridge and Union Ridge are marking milestones on the same May 2–3 window, and they're worth a mention — especially if you're already out and about in those parts of Ridgefield. We'll be covering these neighborhoods more as local businesses there continue to grow.

Sunday, May 3 — Community Nature Center Ribbon Cutting

describe the image
Date
Sunday, May 3, 2026
Hours
Noon – 4 PM (Ribbon Cutting: 1–2 PM)
Where
Ridgefield Community Nature Center — 28908 NW Main Ave, Ridgefield, WA 98642
Cost
Free — no registration required

This one's been years in the making. The Community Nature Center at the Carty Unit of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is officially complete, and Sunday is the community's moment to mark it together. The event runs noon to 4 PM, with the formal ribbon cutting from 1 to 2. The rest of the afternoon is open — partner showcases, engagement stations, and self-guided time in the exhibit space, where temporary displays are set up as the permanent indoor exhibits continue to be installed.

A dedicated space for environmental education and community gathering — right at the edge of 5,300 acres of refuge. That's what years of community effort made possible.

The outdoor classroom is also launching that day, which makes it the most kid-accessible element of the event. No food on-site, so grab lunch in downtown Ridgefield before heading out — the drive north is only a few minutes and it makes for a natural two-part Sunday. Show up for the ribbon cutting, explore the outdoor space, and swing back through downtown on the way home.

If Sunday moves you to get more involved, the Friends of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge are actively fundraising for the next phases of exhibits and programming at ridgefieldfriends.org. There's also a commemorative brick program if you want your family's name in the ground there permanently.

A Quick Word About Moola

What Is Moola?

If you've spent any time downtown and seen the Moola name — on signs, stickers, in Instagram posts — and quietly wondered what it actually is: you're not alone, and we're working on a full explainer. The short version is that Moola is a local currency program run through Ridgefield Main Street. It works like cash at participating downtown businesses, and when you spend it, Ridgefield Main Street reimburses those merchants — which is how the program supports the local business community.

Think of it as a way to put your spending dollars into a loop that keeps cycling through downtown rather than out of it. A full Moola post is coming soon. For now: if you see it, it's real, it works like cash, and spending it locally is kind of the whole point.

Two days. More reasons to get out than most months produce. Flower crowns and cupcakes and mint juleps on Saturday. Something genuinely historic for this community on Sunday. If you go — and you should go — tag us. We want to see your hat, your flower crown, and your kids in the splash pad.
