Big hair, big heart: a Dolly tribute party at the Neighborhood Refuge tonight
Pull out the pink, find every rhinestone you own, and head to South Main. Raeann Phillips is playing from 6:30 to 9:30, and the dress code is exactly what you think it is.
It has been a month since we lost Dolly Parton, and if there is one person on earth who would not want us sitting around in sweatpants being sad about it, it's her. So the Neighborhood Refuge is doing the most Dolly thing possible: throwing a party. Tonight. With live music, a pink dress code, and what I can only assume will be the highest concentration of rhinestones Ridgefield has seen since, well, ever.
The theme is printed right across the bottom of the flyer: big hair, big heart, big fun. That's the whole assignment. Show up, sing along to "Jolene" louder than you should, and toast a woman who spent sixty-plus years proving you can be glamorous and kind at the same time.
The Details
The music
Raeann Phillips is a familiar name to anyone who has spent a Friday at the Refuge this year — she has been part of the venue's live music lineup all summer. Tonight she's on from 6:30 to 9:30, which is three solid hours of soundtrack for your rhinestone era. Expect the Dolly catalog to get some love. I would personally like to hear "9 to 5" performed to a room full of people who have just gotten off work, but I'm not the one holding the setlist.
What to wear (yes, really)
The flyer asks for pink, rhinestones, and Dolly T-shirts, and I think we should all take that seriously. You do not need a full Dollywood costume. You need one thing that sparkles and a willingness to be seen in it on Main Street. A pink shirt counts. A borrowed pair of earrings the size of your fist counts. Teasing your hair to within an inch of its life absolutely counts.
And if you truly own nothing pink, this is a small-town problem with a small-town solution: text a friend. Someone in your group chat has a rhinestone belt. Someone always does.
Quick questions
Do I have to dress up?
No one is checking for rhinestones at the door. But you'll have more fun if you do, and you'll be in the photos either way.
Do I need tickets?
Nothing on the flyer says so. Check the Neighborhood Refuge events page or their Facebook post for the latest before you head over.
What time should I get there?
Music starts at 6:30. If you want a table and dinner before the singing starts, earlier is better.
More from Meanwhile in Ridgefield
Go tonight. Wear the pink. Sing badly and proudly. And if you get a great photo of the most committed Dolly in the room, send it my way — I'd love to see Ridgefield show up sparkling.
