For many Ridgefield residents, the Spring Wine Walk has long served as the unofficial kickoff to downtown’s event season. The evening traditionally brought locals and visitors onto Main Street to explore shops, meet business owners, and welcome warmer weather together.
This year, the tradition is taking a pause.
The Ridgefield Main Street organization announced the March Wine Walk will not take place in 2026. Instead, they will introduce a new recurring summer activation called Discover Downtown.
update: Discover Downtown project is in it’s infancy and still be developed (great time to Volunteer)

Why the Ridgefield Wine Walk Is Not Happening in March 2026
In a message sent to downtown merchants, Ridgefield Main Street explained the decision followed a review of:
-
event capacity
-
sustainability
-
overall impact on businesses and visitors
Rather than hosting one large seasonal gathering, the organization plans to pilot a structured monthly format intended to bring steady traffic into shops throughout the summer.

The History of the Ridgefield Wine Walk
The Spring Wine Walk has been part of downtown Ridgefield for years and became one of the town’s most recognizable seasonal traditions attracting 250+ people.
Unlike large regional festivals, the event functioned as a small-town social gathering — neighbors running into each other between storefronts, shop owners hosting guests, and visitors discovering local businesses they had never entered before.
Because it happened twice a year (Spring and Fall) it developed a sense of occasion. For many residents, the Spring event marked the beginning of patio season, evening strolls, and the return of downtown after winter.
That familiarity is why the change feels significant for longtime attendees.
Looking Ahead
Community events evolve as towns grow. Some traditions expand, others transform into new versions designed to better fit current participation levels.
The Wine Walk has created many memories in Ridgefield, and it will likely remain a nostalgic favorite for years to come. This summer’s Discover Downtown series now becomes the next chapter in how the community gathers on Main Street.
