There's Now an App for Downtown — and 58 Businesses Are Already On It
The new Ridgefield Main Street app made its debut at last night's community meeting, and it wants to be the one place that tells you what's open, what's happening, and where to go exploring on Main Street.
Last Thursday was the first Main Street Ridgefield community meeting at the Liberty Theater since Kelliana Cole — yes, wife of our Ted-Lasso-looking mayor, Matt Cole — took over as interim director of Main Street Ridgefield. (Fingers crossed she sticks the landing, because so far, beyond good.) Full room, good energy, and one presentation I actually walked out thinking about.
That presentation came from Sam Clark, a Ridgefield resident and the founder of Warden Systems, who's built a new app for our downtown called Ridgefield Main Street. I did what I do, which is corner him after and ask a bunch of questions, hand him my card, and get an email with more detail than I technically needed. You're welcome.
The Short Version
It's a directory. Events calendar, map of the 58 downtown businesses and non-profits currently listed (who knew there were so many!?), volunteer sign-ups, and a badge system that rewards you for actually walking into the shops you normally just drive past. Free, live now, that's the app.
Here's my honest read: the app is great for the what and the where — it's not trying to be the why you should care, and it's not trying to be MIR, but I am slowly becoming a daily checker! It can tell you Ridgefield Florist has a new hours listing. It's not going to tell you the barista there just adopted a very dramatic cat, or that the mayor showed up to last night's meeting like it was a PTA fundraiser. That's still my job, because we all have our mental wellness ways.
How to Get It
Getting started takes about a minute. Search "Ridgefield Main Street" on the App Store or Google Play, and sign in with your Apple or Google account — no new password to remember, which honestly should be the standard for everything at this point.
On the privacy front: your information isn't sold, and location is only used while the app is open and with your permission. I've downloaded it and have only taken it for a half spin — badge count currently sitting at a very embarrassing zero — but I am committed to building them up quickly. If I unlock something for visiting Carts by the Park before you do, that's just how it's going to be.

The Bigger Picture
Worth noting: this isn't a one-off project just for us. Sam's company, Warden Systems, built this as part of a broader platform called Our Main Street, which is being offered to other communities too. So if it works here — and early signs from last night's crowd suggest people are into it — Ridgefield ends up being something of a proof of concept for small downtowns everywhere. Not bad for a town that still argues about roundabouts.
If you want to dig into the company itself, Sam's site is wardensystems.ai.

Grab the app for the what and where. Keep me around for the why, the who, and whatever the birdie in the reflective orange vest tells me next. If you've already downloaded it, I want to hear what you think — and if you're a downtown business that isn't listed yet, this feels like a very doable Tuesday-afternoon task.
