Ridgefield is making history with the launch of its very first Youth Commission! Appointed in late 2025, this group of motivated 8th to 12th graders is officially at work giving our younger residents a direct voice in local government.
What exactly do they do? The commission isn’t just a learning experience; it’s a platform for real civic leadership and problem-solving. Throughout 2026, these students will meet regularly to hear from experts, conduct official public meetings, and research topics that impact our city. Their primary goal is to provide fresh perspectives to the City Council that help shape future regulations.
Focus for 2026: E-Bikes and E-Scooters For their inaugural term, the Commission is diving deep into the world of e-mobility. Because e-bikes and e-scooters have become so popular with local teens, the group is researching the balance between the fun of these devices and the growing safety concerns regarding accidents and road rules. By the end of the year, they will present a final report to the City Council with recommendations on potential new rules for licensing, safety requirements, and where these devices should be allowed to ride.
It’s an exciting time for Ridgefield as we support these young leaders in making our community safer and more inclusive!
