After 37 Years, Chief Cathy Doriot Is Hanging Up Her Badge

Ridgefield's own — the officer who grew up here, rose through every rank, and spent the last three years leading the department — has announced her retirement. A search for her successor begins now.

Cathy Doriot has been part of Ridgefield's story for a long time — longer than most. She grew up here, joined the police department, and worked her way up through every rank: officer, sergeant, lieutenant, and finally, chief. On April 17, 2026, the City of Ridgefield announced that after more than 37 years of service, Chief Doriot is retiring.

To ensure the transition goes smoothly, Chief Doriot has agreed to remain in her role until a new chief is hired. That search is beginning immediately, and according to the city, it will include input from law enforcement, community stakeholders, and residents.

What She Built as Chief

Chief Doriot was sworn in by the City Council in March 2023. In the three years since, she oversaw significant growth in the Ridgefield Police Department — adding a detective, two sergeants, and four officer positions. She also secured sustainable funding to support continued public safety investment and spearheaded the launch of a drone program, along with body-worn and car-mounted camera systems.

A Regional Impact, Starting Here

Chief Doriot's reach extended well beyond Ridgefield's city limits. Back in 2018, she launched a local Pink Patch Project to raise awareness about breast cancer and generate funds for research and support services. For nine years running, the Ridgefield Police Department has partnered with local merchants to sell collectible pink police patches, with proceeds going to the Pink Lemonade Project. What started as a Ridgefield initiative has since spread across Clark County — nearly every law enforcement agency in the region now participates.

She also chaired the Law Enforcement Council for Clark County, served on the Board of Directors for the Police Activities League, and has been an active participant with Kindness 911. In 2025, the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce recognized her with the Iris Award, given to women who have shown exceptional dedication to their industries and communities.

"There are very few people who have ever given as much as Chief Doriot has, serving Ridgefield's people and place. We are so grateful for everything she's done for us and what she means to this organization and City."

— Steve Stuart, City Manager

"I am deeply grateful for the trust the community has placed in me over nearly four decades of service. Ridgefield has been and will continue to be my home, and it has been the honor of a lifetime to serve the people here."

— Chief Cathy Doriot

"Chief Doriot leaves huge boots to fill. Her commitment to RPD and our community is unmatched. Even as she retires we look forward to seeing her around town and thanking her for her service."

— Mayor Matt Cole

Chief Doriot will continue serving the city through the hiring process. Questions about the search can be directed to City Manager Steve Stuart at [email protected] or (360) 887-3557.
