New here? Let's get you caught up.

Ridgefield is changing faster than its own maps. This is the shortcut — the newsletter, the guides, and the handful of links that save you about six months of figuring it out alone.

New to Ridgefield? This town is changing faster than its own maps.Meanwhile in Ridgefield is not a chamber of commerce, a real estate blog, or a city newsletter. It is one neighbor who pays close attention, has a decent source network, and sends one email every Friday morning.

I moved here from New Jersey and spent most of my first year asking questions I could have answered in an afternoon, if anyone had handed me a list. Nobody did. So I built one. Everything on this site is that list — where to eat, what is being built, which weekend things are worth leaving the house for, and who to call when the power goes out.

No paywall, no ads, no press releases printed as news. If something opens, closes, breaks ground, or gets argued about at a council meeting, it ends up here.

The Guides

Long, honest, and updated when things change — which around here is constantly.

Moving to Ridgefield

Costs, schools, commute reality, what is here and what is coming

Built from what people actually ask before they move, not from a brochure. Covers the I-5 commute honestly, the school district, HOAs in the newer developments, the thin rental market, and what the growth means for the next few years.

The Quick Orientation

The handful of facts that come up in nearly every conversation about this town.

Ridgefield Basics

Where
Clark County, Washington. Roughly 15 minutes north of downtown Vancouver and 25 to 30 minutes from Portland in good conditions — budget more at rush hour.
Zip
98642
Schools
Ridgefield School District. Boundaries shift as new schools open, so confirm your assignment by address rather than by neighborhood name.
City
ridgefieldwa.us — council agendas, permits, utility setup, and public meeting schedules.
Getting around
Car-dependent, full stop. There is no meaningful transit within town, and C-Tran connections start from a park-and-ride in Vancouver.
Groceries
Fred Meyer is the anchor. For Costco, Trader Joe's, or anything specialty, you are heading to Vancouver.
Summer
Ridgefield Raptors baseball, West Coast League, at the Ridgefield Sports Complex. Cheap tickets, good evening, bring a jacket for the ninth.
Nobody hands you a map when you move to a small town. Consider this the map.

What Lands in Your Inbox

One email, Friday morning, four sections. Short enough to read with one cup of coffee.

Inside Every Issue

  • News — council decisions, permits, road work, new construction, and what it means for you rather than just what happened.
  • On the Site This Week — whatever went up on the site, in case you missed it.
  • This Weekend — events with dates, times, and whether they are worth it.
  • The Buzz — sightings, permit approvals, rumors with the appropriate amount of salt, and tea from the usual suspects.

Common Questions

What does it cost?

Nothing. It is free and it will stay free.

How often will you email me?

Once a week, Friday morning. Occasionally a second one if something genuinely urgent happens in town — a closure, a fire, a major announcement. That is rare.

I own a business here. Can we be covered?

Yes, and I would like to hear from you. Openings, moves, expansions, anniversaries, and events all get written up. There is no fee and no advertising package attached to it — send it over.

I just got here and do not know anyone. Where do I actually start?

Volunteer with something, go to one event this month, and pick a coffee shop to become a regular at. That is the entire playbook for a town this size, and it works faster than you would think.

Can I share this page or hand it out?

Please do. Print it, link it, put it in a welcome packet, leave it on a counter. That is what it is for.

You got something wrong.

Tell me and I will fix it. Corrections are welcome any time and I would rather hear it from you than not — drop a note.

One email. Every Friday.

Whatever brought you here — a job, a school district, a spreadsheet comparing Oregon taxes, or a link somebody sent you — this is a town where the mayor goes down the same slide as the ten-year-olds at a park opening and nobody finds that unusual. Come to something. Say hello. Tell me what I am missing.
